I have been mainly a Windows user for a very long time (~7 years). Had heard great things about Linux, but at the same time, had doubts about the practical value of switching to Linux.
There were people who used to complain about various things not working "out-of-the-box" with Linux, such as wireless networking, skype video, etc.
But, I had been responsible for administrating & managing the Solaris servers for one of my projects, & I had really enjoyed that work. I am a very great fan of "scripting" various tasks; & I think the capabilities of Windows command prompt are no-where near to the bash shell (or any other shell for that matter).
I was told about cygwin by a friend of mine (almost 4 years back), and I have been a devout user of cygwin since then; but still that's not the real thing, right?
